What is Dermacell AWM ?

Dermacell AWM is a gift of healing from one human to another. It’s real human skin that has been carefully processed to remove the vast majority of donor DNA2—with no artificial materials or animal products. What remains is a natural structure that supports your body’s healing process.2,3,5,6

Dermacell AWM may be right for you if:

  • You have a wound that hasn’t healed in more than four weeks
  • Standard treatments like dressings or ointments haven’t worked
  • Your doctor determines Dermacell AWM is the best next step for your wound
Important Note: Dermacell AWM should not be used if you have a known sensitivity/allergy to certain antibiotics or glycerol, or if your wound has an active, untreated infection. Let your doctor know about any allergies before treatment.1
What to Expect During Treatment1

Dermacell AWM is usually applied in a wound clinic or outpatient setting.

  1. Wound Preparation

    Your doctor will clean your wound, remove dead tissue and ensure proper blood flow to the area. It is also essential that your blood sugar levels remain stable (if diabetic).

  2. Application

    Dermacell AWM is placed directly over the wound and secured in place using one or more:

    • Sutures
    • Staples
    • Steri‑strips
    • Medical-grade skin glue (if needed)

  3. Dressing

    A non-stick dressing is placed over the graft, often with additional padding for cushioning and support.

After the initial application, your doctor will give you specific instructions, which may include: 

  • Minimizing walking or pressure on the wound (especially if it’s on the foot)
  • How to care for the dressing at home
  • When to return for a follow-up visit to check your healing process.
